About the Role:
The Senior Medical Director, Pipeline Lead, Oncology provides strategic medical affairs leadership for Ipsen's oncology pipeline, with accountability for shaping the medical strategy from early development through clinical stage progression.
You act as a senior medical partner within the early development asset teams, ensuring that patient, thought leader and scientific insights are embedded into asset strategy, evidence generation, external engagement and cross-functional decision making.
As a senior member of the Global Medical Affairs Oncology (GMAO) leadership team, the individual with develop scientific narratives, engage key external experts and scientific societies and partner closely with R&D, commercial, market access, regulatory and key market medical affairs field and head office teams.
The role requires a credible oncology medical affairs professional with strong scientific judgement, strategic agility and the ability to influence across a global matrix to maximize the value and impact of Ipsen's oncology portfolio.
Main Responsibilities
Medical Strategy & Pipeline Leadership
- Provide medical input into clinical development plans, lifecycle management and portfolio value maximization ass key member of the asset team
- Define and delivers integrated medical asset plans aligned to patient needs and business priorities, ensuring the medical strategy is embedded across the asset lifecycle.
- Influence cross-functional decision-making through strong medical leadership and strategic insight
- Partner with patient affairs in support of patient input into early phase studies
- Lead and integrates the Pipeline Medical Sub-Team, ensuring effective collaboration across R&D, Market Access, Commercial, Patient Affairs, Corporate Affairs and regional medical teams.
- Support countries and field medical teams through pipeline training, scientific materials and expert engagement guidance.
- Manage medical asset budget planning, prioritisation, reporting and resource allocation.
2. Evidence Generation & Scientific Communication
- Oversee GMA-led data generation activities where appropriate
- Partner with R&D for site identification and trial recruitment as appropriate
- Develop and executes scientific narratives, congress strategy, publications, abstracts and presentations in collaboration with Asset teams and Medical Communications, Capabilities & Education (MCCE)
- Support countries and field medical teams through pipeline training, scientific materials and expert engagement guidance.
- Maintain strong oncology expertise through critical appraisal of literature, competitive intelligence and emerging scientific data.
3. External Engagement, Partnerships & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintains strategic relationships with KOLs, scientific societies, patient organisations and external partners.
- Develop and executes pipeline congress strategy and scientific narrative, aligned with R&D and corporate affairs
- Lead insight gathering to inform strategic decision making through conducting advisory boards, 1:1 consultations etc
4. Governance, Compliance & Ethical Standards
- Ensure all activities comply with Ipsen SOPs, GCP, medical governance requirements and applicable national and international standards.
- Uphold ethical standards in all scientific, medical and external engagement activities
Qualifications
- Advanced medical/scientific degree (MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent).
- Extensive pharmaceutical experience in significant oncology clinical and/or medical affairs leadership positions including working cross-functionally with R&D, market access, commercialization and manufacturing
- Experience at both affiliate (local) roles and regional/global oncology positions
- Experience in early phase oncology roles preferred
- Market-relevant experience of therapy area, including the competitive landscape and Key External Experts
- Proven leadership in new product strategy, launch preparation, and cross-functional medical planning.
- Demonstrated visibility and engagement in international scientific societies (ESMO, ASCO, AACR, SITC) preferred
- Excellent scientific communication skills, with experience presenting at global medical congresses.
- Strong strategic thinking, influencing, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Fluent English
