Description du poste
**Job Description:**
CRYOPROP is a 3-year effort to explore the potential of superconducting materials and cryogenic temperatures on the performance of an aircraft's electrical propulsion system.
As a ground-test demonstrator, CRYOPROP is an ambitious, futuristic and disruptive superconducting and cryogenic experimental powertrain for hybrid/full electric propulsion system.
CRYOPROP will be composed of an ground-test electric demonstrator including a superconducting DC/AC network, a cryogenic motor control unit, a superconducting electric motor and of a cryogenic system. It also includes a ground-test cryogenic demonstrator, to analyse the behaviour of cryogenic components (heat-exchanger, valves, cryofan) for the cryogenic cooling system.
The opportunity of an internship on superconducting AC coils has risen within the team, based in Toulouse.
*This internship will ideally begin September 2026 and will last for a period of 4 months.*
* Main Missions *
This internship investigates the electromagnetic interactions between AC-operated superconducting coils and surrounding metallic structures, such as vacuum chambers and piping. Your principal missions will be:
* Simulation and calculation of the losses in a superconducting coil in different electric conditions and environment.
* Perform electrical measurement on a superconducting coil at cryogenic temperature in liquid nitrogen or cooled by cryogenic helium. This includes instrumenting the coils to perform the different relevant measurements.
* Conceptualize a small test bench to validate the theoretical results.
* Compile and analyze the experimental results to compare them to theoretical calculations.
* Derive some design rules for upgrading the existing test bench.
You will need to collaborate with a diverse technical team in order to understand the multi-disciplinary constraints around the superconducting coil.
An open personality and the ability to work with a good autonomy level in a multi-cultural business environment will be necessary.
* Your boarding pass *
As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:
* Master degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
* Strong knowledge of electromagnetics
* Previous knowledge in finite element modeling
* Familiarity with superconductivity and cryogenics will be appreciated
* Autonomy, Adaptability, Availability, Accountability
* Team-Player
* Hands-on and solution oriented attitude
* Passionate about technology, science
* Sharing the values of transparency, courage, humility, empathy
* Willing to have fun.
About us
Founded in 2017, Airbus UpNext is actively shaping the future of aerospace by using demonstrators to evaluate, mature and validate new products and services.
Designed as a talent incubator, Airbus UpNext is a place where you can act and think like a startup while building on the strong expertise of Airbus, a place where you are empowered to challenge and test new processes and ways of working.
Our purpose is:
* To identify the trends that could disrupt the future of the aerospace industry and evaluate them to demonstrate their potential as a viable product.
* To accelerate traditional research cycles and prototype development to achieve proof of concept in a real environment and at a convincing scale and speed.
* To develop real-world applications for emerging aerospace technologies, thereby driving their maturity and increasing their value.
* To be THE reference for Technology Value Assessment
Our Values: #BeSimple #BeAudacious #BeOpen #Caring for Each Other #Speed of Execution
This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
